So what ammo do you "set aside" for 5.56/223? XM193? M855? standard 55gr fmj 223? Do you think there will be a difference if you ever needed that ammo? Using m855 vs Xm193 vs standard 223 55gr fmjs like Wolf Gold. Is it worth spending the extra $60-$80 for 5.56 for 1000 rounds or just stick with the standard 223? Might be a dumb question but thought I would ask.

That's up to you and what you decide you want to do with that ammo and what you're shooting it out of.

855 and 193 will give different results on the same target.

I'd have some of both and know how they shot out of your gun. Don't limit yourself just to those 2 options.

I'm not I was just curious if everyone picks a certain round or just buy what they can get.

    What does your gun like?

Everything... Shot Tulammo, PMC, Wolf, Wolf gold. No malfunctions yet.

Pick 1 rifle, find a round that you can put where you want it every time. Buy a ton of that ammo. Practice regularly, store enough to never run out.
Might want to add a set of reloading dies to the list ...plus make sure your storage ammo is brass cased.

I keep a supply of both on hand for that infamous "Rainy Day". The largest of that amount being Federal XM193 that I'd stocked-up on when I found it on sale.

Maybe no malfunctions, but which is the most accurate? I got a 1:7 twist barrel, will shoot 55 gr like a champ but doesn't shoot 62 gr green tips worth a shit. I got a 1:9 twist, loves the green tips but the 55 gr are all over the place. Go figure. Every barrel is different.

I'd start with some Federal xm193 and go from there

I tried different bulk ammos with my ARs and based on function and average accuracy, I am holding on to the m855.

I also like the convenient packaging they come in.

since I don't shoot my 556, i buy anything brass and cheap, but then again, not much cause all it does is sit in the safe, just no fun or love for it.

Most of what I have is the XM193 followed by some .223 55gr. FMJ and M855/SS109. I have several thousand rounds of each just for a rainy day. :thumb:

I use a lot of xm193 in my AR's. It strikes the right balance between affordability, reliable and acceptable accuracy for what I want to do with a black rifle.
On the other hand though I do have a pretty sweet shooting 223 remington vsf that I keep a lot of brass powder and projectiles for.
