To go piston or not to go piston?

I have a 10.5" (carbine gas system) barreled AR pistol that I am building and have not bought a BCG for it. I do have a Yankee Hill Gas block and gas tube but that is it. I am at the point where I can make the turn to go for a piston set-up or I could continue on with a standard gas block set-up. My concern is reliability with a standard gas set-up vs the piston set-up. I would rather not spend the money for the piston set-up if you guys and gals think that it will run reliably with the gas set-up...

I asked this same question of Nate, and he advised me that he would go piston (if you're going to use it suppressed).

That's just my personal preference. Like all this stuff, it's whatever works for you. The piston setup gives me easier adjustability depending on suppressed or not.

If no can, di is going to be lighter and probably cheaper.

I had to open up the bbls gas port from .075-.077" to .086-.087". My bbl is a YHM 10.5" chambered in 6.8. It came as a complete upper that was marketed as a YHM system(bbl, low pro gas block, tube, and handguard, and end cap). It came with a M16 carrier also. This weapon will not be used with surpressor.

    Shoots fine now. --- SAWMAN

Sawman, was your gas block sold as adjustable? I think I'm missing a screw out of mine causing some feeding issues...

Negative sir .... it was not. IMO,if you have a screw/screw hole on either SIDE of the block,it is supposed to be for gas flowage adjustment. --- SAWMAN
