Instead of going through the expensive trial and error with powders I figured I would post this question to help narrow down my list for both calibers. Thanks for the input!

Given the current powder situation, my favorites are what I have on hand. Currently loading 9mm with either 231 or Bullseye, but I have used BlueDot before. In .308 I have used both 5744 and 4227 with less than optimal results though this rifle needs bore sighting is a really bad sort of way. I just picked up a pound of H4198 at Styx River yesterday and will be trying it over the next couple of weeks.

To expand on what bohica said, right now you don't have the luxury of being picky. You'll just have to buy whatever suitable powder you find, because there is generally not much of a selection. Rifle powder is currently easier to come by than pistol powder.

    Some of my favorites, though:
    308
    - Reloader 15 - My hunting loads achieve sub .5MOA with this powder
    - BL(C)-2 - have it on good authority that this powder works very well, I just haven't tried it yet.
    - IMR 4064 - very versatile powder. I haven't used it for 308, but it ought to work well.

9mm - I just started reloading 9mm recently and I've had to use whatever powder I could find at the time. They all seem to work fairly well, but I haven't done extensive testing.
    - 700X
    - Bullseye
    - Unique
    - Blue Dot

give it a try....h4895 is 2-points above imr for faster burn rate.
projectile depends on rate of twist of the barrel. ours likes 165-168gr with
    1-10 twist

Colpelands in Freeport has had 2lbs of H4895 on the shelf for at least two weeks. I cannot believe how long it has sat.

Thanks for the heads-up Frank. I'm looking for a few pounds of H4895 to work up some subsonic 6.8 loads. I have some IMR4895 arriving tomorrow, but would like to start off with the powder recommended by Bison. A few pounds would hold me over until I find a larger quantity in stock.
