    And a little porn...
I traded my 500 a while back and decided I missed it, so I got one along with a 50AE.
But I can only justify the ammo if I roll my own. Any advice would be appreciated. Maybe recommend some starter equipment or a book Thanks!
    Onto the obligatory gun porn...

No, one for each hand and a 50 Beowulf slung over my back. THEN I'd be balanced. Lol.
I think they might use the same bullets, I'll need to research.

Yes, that is all I want to load for now since everything else I shoot is easy enough to find.
IIRC The Beowulf uses a 7.62 bolt though, im sure that'll matter with the dies, but that's down the line a bit. I'll check out the Dillon kit. Thanks!

Midway sells 20 rd 500 S&W COP ammo for about $33.00. I buy that when they have it in stock to shoot and reuse. It's really good ammo to start with, very accurate and my 500 just loves the stuff. I got 10 boxes saved up to shoot and about 50 to reload. If you happen to find some bullets please share, been looking for a while and nothing but expensive stuff.

^ that's great, that's a pretty manageable load too. I've been looking for Rainier LeadSafe, can't find them! What kind of press are you using? The Dillon Square deal doesn't seem to have the right dies. I definitely want single stage since I'll be doing very small batches, very slowly and very carefully.
I've been really wanting to do this ever since MOA mentioned his wax reloads, just shows the incredible flexibility achieved by rolling your own, and having 2 or 3 guns that would otherwise be expensive to shoot is the last bit of motivation I needed. Plus, I'm a bit hesitant to shoot that 500 "snub" with full house factory loads. I'm not as big as XD45. Lol.

What a great pic, going in my private porn pic collection.

Thanks. One technical error, the Eagle holds 7+1. I'll correct it when I do a pic with the Beowulf.
If I make it out to JJs, you or anyone else is welcome to have a go with either.

It's a pretty good boom, but very manageable to sight in a scope or just shoot a dozen at the range. I've been looking for the rainier's also, I figure midway will probably have them before anyone else does as they usually do on the other cals. I've have a single stage Lee press for these, but I haven't reloaded any for the 500 yet as I don't have bullets. I tell you mine is the 10.5" and is a heavy SOB and I have some hornady 425gr SP's that kick hard out of that sucker. I would not want to shoot anything like those out of yours. Load one at a time for your first few just so you don't accidentally do the double tap on recoil. Cabela's has the large rifle magnum primers in stock right now, just bought some the other day. From what I've read you don't need the magnum primers but I picked some up to mess with.

I did the double tap once with the old Winchester Silver Tips in my old 10.5". Oddly enough, the second shot was on target too.

I will say that the double action trigger out of the PC version was MUCH lighter than on the 4" run if the mill, so I'm not sure if this one would be as easy to double tap.

The load is SOOO important with these monsters. Hornady XTP of FTXs were no problem at all, but those silver tips were straight up NASTY!!! Hence, my desire to roll my own, loaded light, even my 13 y/o can shoot it. Cool thing is, she really wants to.

Sure thing, I want loud and obnoxious. Silly, I know. But only borderline manageable in terms of blast and recoil. It's funny, I had a video of me shooting the silver tips and I and the gun barely moved but it felt like it split the earth. Lol.

Start out by buying the Lyman 49th manual and reading the "How To" part at the beginning. Then start watching youtube videos on the subject. Both of those should give you a better idea of what you'll need.

Also, I may have a couple pieces of 500 brass you can have. I'll bring them to the Swap Meet at JJ's, if you're going to be there.

The 350gr hornady XTP in front of a 80% load of H110 is about as sweet as it gets. Starline makes really nice brass for the .500 also.

P.S. Brad at Styx keeps the XTP's in stock for me. Should be a couple boxes on the shelf. Just sayin

Jeep, I'll do my best to make it. Gotta see how the boss is feeling that day. Yep, married life...

MOA. Thank you, Sir. I'll try to run out there tomorrow. Apparently there's a bit of a shortage. If so, maybe I need to look into casting as well. I already have a press lined up, just gotta make sure they make the right dies for it.

    Thank you gentlemen.
