Throw out the piece with the serial# then sell the rest piece by piece. That's what I would do anyways if I were a POS thief

they won;t do that....pos thieves are too stupid to figure out how to dis-assemble them....
they will grind the number off and sell to another thug...quick turnover...

My AR was recovered today! The PPD located the pickup truck that had been stolen from a fire station in the area and while officers were in the area, the locates my weapon in a tree, wrapped in a blanket. The EOTech is still with it. Apparently some urban youths have been burglarizing cars in the area. He said they likely got excited upon find my weapon, but then got nervous about having something. Sounds like they ditched it without knowing what they had. Detective expects to get it back to me within a couple weeks. Thanks to y'all who kept a lookout. This story ended well.

Remember not to leave weapons in your car, not even one time. I am not lying when I say my AR has been left in my car ONE TIME, ONE TIME EVER. And all it took was one time to get unlucky and have it stolen.

That's awesome. Now you better go play the lottery! This was a good wake up call on keeping your weapon in your truck.

    Learn from it! Lol

Yes it is a good wake up call and I'd like you all to use this as your wake up call as well, if any of you have gotten a little relaxed with this sort of thing. I really it when I say this was the first time I've ever not fully secured a weapon of any sort. The Army had me taught well on that. It literally took one time. That's why I was so shocked and did even feel anger for several days after it happened. Total shock that it was stolen the FIRST TIME. But I guess I should not be shocked. Pensacola has three guns per day stolen from vehicles. Surely we've all had people peeking into our vehicles looking for loot.

I never leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle. I know that sometimes it can't be helped but everyone needs to try to plan ahead when leaving the house.

I took off for Warner-Robbins AFB one morning to deliver something (one day round trip) and out of habit in grabbed my CC pistol. Didn't even think about it until I was halfway there. Panic set in. I wasn't about to go through that gate and try to sneak the gun in, I would still be locked up. I kept thinking about what I could do and finally remembered I have a buddy that lives about 20 miles from there. Luckily he was off work that day so he met me at a restaurant outside the gate, I handed him the gun, went in did my business then we had lunch after I left.

I don't know what I would have done otherwise. I thought about stopping at the local police station or sheriff's office, explaining the situation and asking if they would hold it for me but figured that would probably stir up its own hornets nest.

I've done something similar. I once handed off my pistol to a friend who was leaving base as I was coming on. I'm very careful with my firearms which is why I was extremely embarrassed about this whole ordeal. I pride myself on weapons safety and security. I hound my family members to lock their vehicles when they're at home and have a weapon in them, and to never leave the weapon in the car away from home. But since this was the only time and it only took one single time, I decided to tell as many people as possible so they'd know to never relax. It really does take just one unlucky day.

I don't doubt that this was the first time you left a firearm in your car. That's how luck works. Only once. I only dallied my ex wife once when it wasn't completely safe and I have a 35 year old daughter to show for it.

I knew a guy once who had his smith and Wesson tucked behind his belt buckle, found himself in line to bedlums one early Sunday morning. Noticed they were patting down and wanting guys. His ride was dead set on being out till 4am, so apparently he went around the corner , found a parking lot, went to the bush in the corner, placed the piece in his hat and put it in the bush.
2 hours later, on the way to the car, he swung by and fished his 550$ 80's era smith and Wesson out of the bush. That story woke me up, I have to wonder just how much beer was involved when dropping off you firearm I. A bush in downtown p cola is a good idea.

Wow. Thanks for that story. I know what I did was stupid, but THAT is even worse. That would be almost criminal, I think.

To take this thread in a slightly different direction, the detective told me that it's been trending up that the urban youths have been breaking into vehicles frequently. Do any of you have any insight into what's causing this trend? Anytime I see a trend like that I always wonder what the cause is. The spike in Pensacola overall crime over the last several years is the appearance of large amounts of heroin on the streets. It's become the drug of choice. So what is the reason for the spike in youths breaking into cars?

I dunno, but heroin has been close to the Alabama line for a while(so I've heard) and cars are bad enough on Santa Rosa for long enough the sheriff put up the "lock, keep, take" signs two years ago. Another benifit of growth and progress, I guess

Pensacola Police Department returned my AR to me today. All attachments were still on it except for the foregrip/bipod. Small loss in return for getting my AR back with the EOTech still intact.

Had some rust, but a little CLP and effort took that off. Going to try to get to the range next week and zero my iron sights and EOTech again.

Awesome you got it back... the truck that was stolen from the fire station was a good friend's, hopefully they catch the scumbags who did it, and hopefully they beat the piss out of them in the process.

It's called "popping cars' and it is substance driven, they break into cars for people who leave valuables which they in turn flip for drug money. It's been going on for a long time, perhaps citizens are just becoming more aware of it but I have provided services to dozens and dozens of kids incarcerated for this offense from all over the state for most of my career.

I'm glad you got it back, that's very rare. How did they recover it if I can be nosy?

Before PPD returned it to me, they of course lifted prints and DNA (if there was any). John, do they have any leads at all on your friend's truck? I'd like to stay up to date on this stuff. The only real "lead" on my weapon thieves was that it seems the people who stole it and the people who stole the truck are obviously the same people.
